Does the Treasure Valley have a rat problem?

You may have seen some of the headlines lately about a rat problem in the Treasure Valley. Some of the articles almost make it sound like rats are running around town as soon as the lights go out!

So, do we really have a rat problem? Honestly, I haven't seen any rats myself, but apparently, some parts of the valley have been experiencing an increase in rat activity.

Central District Health recently approved a $250,000 budget to help address the problem. Some of that money will go toward helping individual households cover the cost of traps and pest control treatments, with up to $600 available per household. Other efforts include non-poisonous birth control for rats and measures to reduce the rat population.

We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks and months. In the meantime, I think they should set up a competition: whoever traps the most rats wins the pot!
